CMP EVENTS
This listing is tentative to board approval and maybe changed at any time.
The GSM matches are events developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program
(CMP) to introduce shooters to competitive rifle shooting. They are designed
to promote target practice and competition by as many adults and youth as
possible. These matches generally are less formal than traditional target
competitions, are restricted to equipment that is simpler and less costly
and have courses of fire that can be completed by greater numbers of
competitors. The Del Norte Gun club will conduct the GSM matches in the
spirit of this intent. These matches may alternatively be referred to as
CMP matches. Matches that are registered and sanctioned with the CMP will
be posted on the Del Norte Gun Club web site:
http://delnortegunclub.com/
, in an email announcement, and posted in the clubhouse.
DATES:
Matches will be held the 1st Sunday of each month.
Location:
Del Norte Gun Club 1000-Yard Range, Rio Rancho New Mexico, USA
Competitor Eligibility:
This competition is open to all individuals. DNGC and NRA membership is
recommended, but not required. For safety reasons, if a competitor is having
problems keeping ALL bullets in the target and berm, he/she may be asked to
cease-fire to re-evaluate their abilities at another time.
New shooters should evaluate the course of fire and consider attending a
match to observe and ask as many questions as he/she might have before
competing. GSM shooters are patient and very willing to assist new shooters,
but it does help to know what you are getting into. It is also good to see
the equipment used for GSM matches.
RSVP required for ALL guests shooters (Non-DNGC members)
This is to allow arrangements for the front gate to be opened for entrance
and re-opened for exit. RSVP recommended for club members also planning to
attend. RSVP’s are helpful for Match Director to have enough target faces
available.

The 200 yard SR target is used for all stages.
-
In slow-fire, shooters must load and fire only one round at a time.
-
Sighting shots may be fired in any position. A support or supported position
may be used. Sighting shots are not counted in the match score. All 5
sighters do not have to be fired. Competitor is responsible for notifying
the scorer to begin recording record shots if less than 5 sighters are fired.
-
Shooters will be given a combined time limit of 25 minutes for the Sighting
and First stages to fire up to five sighting shots and 20 record shots in
the prone position.
-
In rapid-fire when the load command is given, all shooters must load
rifles with the bolt closed on an empty chamber. Shooters with bolt
actions leave the bolts open. The first round may not be chambered
until the shooter is in position. Shooters with Garand rifles must load
two rounds in the magazine and eight rounds in the second magazine.
After firing two shots, they must replace the magazine and fire the
remaining eight rounds, all within the time limit. Shooters with bolt
action rifles must load five and reload five rounds.
-
In rapid-fire stages, shooters start from the standing position. They
are commanded to load two or five rounds with bolts closed on empty
chambers. After targets come up, they must get into the firing position,
load the first round, fire two or five shots, reload the magazine and
fire the remaining eight or five shots.
-
In a Garand Match, where semi-automatic rifles are used, the prone rapid-
fire stage is 70 seconds. In a Springfield or Vintage Military Rifle Match,
where manually-operated rifles are used, the prone rapid-fire stage is 80
seconds. If semi-automatic and manually-operated rifles are mixed on the
line, the prone rapid fire stage is 80 seconds.
-
In a Garand Match, the sitting rapid-fire stage is 60 seconds. In a
Springfield or Vintage Military Rifle Match, the sitting rapid-fire stage
is 70 seconds. If semi-automatic and manually-operated rifles are mixed on
the line, the sitting rapid fire stage is 70 seconds.
