1000 YARD RANGE

This range is fully open to certified members that have a 600 yard pin, from 200 yard to 600 yard. Some positions are open for ranges greater than 600 yards to certified members that have the 1000 yard pin. This range is classified as a competition range and scheduled activities will have priority in the use of this range. The range is open to use to certified members with the appropriate pins at non-scheduled times.

We are currently looking for people that are willing to be in charge of different competition events on this range, please contact me with your interest.

  1. Certification for use of this range will be at 600 and 1000 yards.


  2. Certification pins for the ID card will be issued after completing the qualifications for the 600 or the 1000 yard positions.


  1. DNGC Class and field qualifying.DNGC offers a class that teaches the basics of long range shooting. The class topics are ballistics, sight adjustment, affects of wind and other skills required to shoot at long range. This includes basic sighting in at 200 yards to determine zero using a chronograph to determine velocity for use in developing ballistic information. The field qualification consists of the following:


    1. Pit and range safety requires two DNGC approved instructors (pit and firing line).


    2. Participants are required to provide all their equipment and accessories (rifle, ammunition, rest, scope, jackets, etc.)


    3. 600 yard Qualification (Class participants will share pit duties as DNGC will not provide target pullers.)


      1. Sight in phase at the 200 and 300 yard positions. Ten minutes with unlimited number of shots at each position. Targets will be pulled and scored between each shot.


      2. Shooting for verification at the 600 yard position. 20 minutes for ten shots. Targets will NOT be pulled and scored between shots. Scoring will be done by the DNGC pit instructor. To pass must have seven valid hits on the 6' X 6" target and all ten shots have to hit the rear impact berm.


    4. 1000 yard Qualification


      1. Must have 600 yard qualification


      2. Must fire and zero in at the 800, 900, and 1000 yard positions prior to qualifying at the 1000 yard position


      3. Sight in phase for the 800, 900 and 1000 yard positions. Ten minutes with unlimited number of shots. Targets will be pulled and scored between shots.


      4. Shooting for certification at the 1000 yard position will be Twenty minutes with ten shots. Targets will NOT be pulled and scored between shots. Scoring will be done by the DNGC pit instructor. Certification required seven valid hits on the target and all ten shots must hit the rear impact berm.


  2. Proof of ability with certification. Must have current certification of a Board approved event or skill classification. (eg., NRA, ALMA, F Class, FTR, etc) Must also attend a pit and range safety introduction given by a DNGC approved instructor


  3. Proof of ability by shooting. By field qualification which consists of;


    1. Pit and range safety by instructors. Requires two DNGC approved instructors (pit and firing line).


    2. Participants are required to provide all their equipment and accessories (rifle, ammunition, rest, scope, jackets, etc.)


    3. 600 yard Qualification


      1. Fire from 600 yards with participants sharing pit duties. DNGC will not provide target pullers


      2. Sight in phase. Five minutes with unlimited number of shots. Targets will be pulled and scored between shots.


      3. Shooting for Certification. Twenty minutes with ten shots. Targets will NOT be pulled and scored between shots. Scoring will be done by DNGC pit instructor. To qualify must have ten valid hits on target within an 18" group.


    4. 1000 yard Qualification


      1. Must have 600 yard qualification


      2. Fired from 800 yard, 900 yard and 1000 yard. Need to satisfactorily complete firing at each distance before advancing to next distance.


      3. Sight in phase. Five minutes with unlimited number of shots. Targets will be pulled and scored after each shot.


      4. Shooting for Certification. Twenty minutes with ten shots. Targets will NOT be pulled and scored between shots. Scoring will be done by DNGC pit instructor. To qualify must have ten valid hits on the target.Group size must be within:


        1. 800 yard - 24"


        2. 900 yard - 27"


        3. 1000 yard - 30"




      You may or may not know that our last work detail was shortened by rain, so we need to finish up our summer maintenance on the 1K range and of course we need all the help we can get. As hard as it is for everyone to schedule in additional items in your eveyday busy agenda, we really appreciate all your past support and help.

      weed patrols on all firing lines and berm in front of target butts Kevin and Don will be installing new pulleys on targets 9 and 10 we MUST finish grading firing line on the 800, rakes and shovels needed stretch 3-new target faces repair damaged target frames paste target faces move all excess club equipment from behind target storage trailers to general storage area just south of trailers.

      Please let me know if you have any talents that can be utilized more beneficially, general maintenance tools needed: rakes, garden hoe or small cultivator type tools, shovels. We have staplers for stretching target faces but if you have cordless screw guns, small hand tools and tools you think would be needed.

      WHEN: Saturday July 25th 2009 at 0800 for classroom only instruction ( weather permitting ).
      This is an all day class so bring your lunch.

      Qualification date and time will be determined later.

      EQUIPMENT: 223 cal. and up ie. any firearm that will shoot 600 yards. Provide your own ammo. ( suggest you have 100 rounds ). ***Ammo not needed until actual qualification day.***

      COF: Course of fire for qualification is from 200, 300, and 600 yards. Interest and time permitting will determined if firing from the 800, 900, and 1000 yards. 50 cal. firearms are acceptable.
      QUALIFICATION: Ten rounds and all rounds must hit the rear impact berm with seven hits on paper on the 6' x 6' targets.

      Preference is given to DNGC members at no cost and class size is limited to 15.
